The Greene County baseball team had a tough week, losing all four games on their schedule. Monday, June 14, they fell to Roland-Story 15-6 and Wednesday it was South Hamilton 6-2. Saturday Saydel hosted a tournament where the Rams lost to Van Meter 7-3 and to Saydel 10-2.
GC is 2-12 on the season and is 1-7 in Heart of Iowa Conference action. The Rams traveled to Prairie City-Monroe Monday and hosted Manson-Northwest Webster on Tuesday. Wednesday Greene County entertains West Marshall and travels to Perry Friday. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
Roland-Story 15 ~ Rams 6
Greene County had a tough task Monday against the #2 team in Class 2A, Roland-Story. The 12-3 Norsemen rolled into Jefferson and hammered 14 hits off four Ram pitchers.
Kole Teeples, Cameren Miller, Peyton Kinsey and Alex Roberts went to the mound for the Rams. Together they yielded 15 runs, 14 that were earned, on 16 hits, seven walks, four hit batters and six strikeouts. Roberts was tagged with the loss.
Joe Carey singled and doubled; Braeden Roberts cracked a triple and Miller, a double as each drove in a run, while Teeples hit two singles for an RBI and Justin Stream added a base hit.
The Rams committed one error and left five runners on base. R-S had 14 hits with four errors and left 12 runners stranded.
S Hamilton 6 ~ Rams 2
The Rams traveled to Jewell Wednesday where they lost to the host team, South Hamilton, 6-2. Greene County trailed 1-0 after two innings before taking a 2-1 lead in the third. SH regained the lead for good with a five-run fourth inning to end scoring.
Bryce Stalder took the pitching loss. He went all six innings, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits, one walk, and one hit batter. Stalder struck the Hawks out six times.
The offense collected five hits, all singles, from Stalder, Jack Hansen, Max Riley, Teeples, and Miller. Stalder and Teeples each had an RBI.
Van Meter 7 ~ Rams 3
Greene County met Van Meter in the first game of the Jim Gebhart Invitational hosted by Saydel Saturday. The Rams scored single runs in the first and fourth innings while the Bulldogs plated runs in each of the first four innings to take a 5-2 lead. They added two in the fifth. The Rams managed to get one runner across the plate in the seventh, but Van Meter’s defense held for a 7-3 victory.
The Rams had seven hits and one error while the Bulldogs had no errors and six hits. Stalder stroked a single and double and had two stolen bases. Miller singled and had two runs batted in. Riley, Teeples, Roberts, and Hansen also recorded base hits.
Carey threw the first two innings with Teeples pitching the final four.
